Motivate 0

Jan21

Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. When you are the boss of others, the temptation to use your power to control them is always there. However, if you start using this power too much it can bring disorder to your office environment.

Think of how you would feel if you had a boss always driving you around. Would you like to work for someone like that? If your hard work was never appreciated, would your motivation last? Definitely not! Therefore it is important to do your duty as a boss in such a way that you get your respect for your position without upsetting your employees.

Giving power to your employees to make them feel unthreatened by yours can be a dangerous tactic. Being over friendly with your subordinates or not acting like the boss might make them a little too relaxed with their work. They might even start questioning your decisions. Be friendly and do not gorge them with work, make them do just as much is required from them. Also do not let them forget who the boss is by not allowing them to question your decisions.

Keep an eye on your employees but sure you give them enough space to work comfortably. Think of your staff as your team and yourself as the captain of this team. Your job is to make sure everyone plays in their right positions and keep them guided and motivated. Perhaps a few incentives to make them work harder will help in keeping them motivated to work harder.

When you change your focus onto a new opportunity, you should not expect your employees to know what you want them to know, without having explained/guided them properly. Hire and use some extra training staff if you have to, but make sure there is no communication gap between you and your employees. They should know exactly what you expect from them.

The most important factor that keeps your staff motivated is optimism in the way you see their work. Finding mistakes in their work and correcting them is important but do not just be a cynic about it, make sure you appreciate what they do right. Appreciation is often what employees look forward to more than anything else for their hard work. Putting just a little effort to gratify them wins you a healthier office environment and thus better results on their work.

Encouraging Ethical Behavior 0

Jan21

Most authorities agree that there is room for improvement in business ethics. One of the most problematic questions raised in relation to business ethics is whether or not businesses can become more ethical in the real world. The majority opinion on this issue suggests that government, trade associations, and individual firms can indeed establish acceptable levels of ethical behavior.

The government can do so by legislating more stringent regulations. But, rules require enforcement and when in many cases there is evidence of lack of enforcement even the ethical businessperson will tend to “slip something by” without getting caught. Increased regulation may help, but it surely cannot solve the entire business ethics problems.

Trade associations can and often do provide ethical guidelines for their members. These organizations within particular industries are in an excellent position to exert pressures on members that stoop to questionable business practices. However, enforcement and authority vary from association to association. Moreover, exactly because trade associations exist for the benefit of their members, harsh measures may be self-defeating.

Employees can more easily determine and adopt acceptable behavior when companies provide them with a “code of ethics.” Such codes are perhaps the most effective way to encourage ethical behavior. A code of ethics is a written guide to acceptable and ethical behavior that outlines uniform policies, standards and punishments for violations. Because employees know what is expected of them and what will happen if they violate the rules, a code of ethics goes a long way towards encouraging ethical behavior. However, codes cannot possibly cover every situation. Companies must also create an environment in which employees recognize the importance of complying with the written code. Managers must provide direction by fostering communication, actively modeling and encouraging ethical decision making, apart from investing in training employees to make ethical decisions.

Sometimes, even employees who want to act ethically may find it difficult to do so. Unethical practices can become ingrained in an organization. Employees with high personal ethics may then take a controversial step called “whistle blowing.” Whistle blowing is informing the press or government officials about unethical practices in an organization. Whistle blowing could have averted disaster and prevented needless deaths in the Challenger space shuttle disaster, for example. How could employees have known about life-threatening problems and let them pass? Whistle blowing on the other hand, can have serious repercussions for employees; those who make waves sometimes lose their jobs.

An Understanding of “Kashrut” in the United States 0

Jan21

According to Answers.com, the definition of Kashrut is the state of being Kosher and/or the body of Jewish dietary law. Of course, there are many more meanings to the word Kashrut or Kosher. It does not simply apply to food. It can be in the way people are treated. However, in this article I will focus on kosher foods in the United States to help make it easier to find a kosher restaurant in Los Angeles or anywhere else.

The Hebrew word Kosher, Kashrut, etc. are all different titles given to the Jewish dietary laws. In the United States and the English language, we use the word Kosher. The word actually means fit or correct, as well as suitable according to the Jewish law. Pigs are (for some reason) most notable when it comes to non-kosher foods. If an animal is not slaughtered appropriately or is killed ferociously by its predator, it is not considered kosher.

Orthodox Judaism has a much stricter way of it’s laws than Conservative Judaism does.

In the United States, there are many laws stating that it is a crime if a company says that a food is Kosher when it really is not. This law is in effect in the following states:

- Arkansas
- California
- Connecticut
- Illinois
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Texas
- Virginia

It is also a law in some parts of Florida and Baltimore.

According to Answers.com, there are many restrictions placed on food for it to be labeled kosher by the Jewish law. Here are some of those restrictions.

1. Mammals that live on the land have to eat food that they chew the cud and have cloven hoofs.

2. Birds of prey are not considered kosher.

3. Fish must have fins and scales.

4. Any dairy and meat products are not to be served at the same meal, cooked using the same dishes or tools, or stored inappropriately. They cannot touch each other.

5. A trained Shochet uses a particular way to slaughter animals known as shechits. A Shochet severs the jugular, carotid artery, esophagus, and trachea in one smooth cut with a sharp knife.

6. The blood is then removed from the animal. This can be done by broiling, soaking and salting.

7. If a kitchen has been used in a non-kosher way (such as a young Jewish couple moving into a new apartment) they must boil everything in that kitchen to prepare it to become kosher.

There are many laws in Judaism that pertain to kosher foods, but it does not end at just food. It is a way of living. It is the lifestyle of the Jewish and of the Jewish law. It has come over to the United States to appropriately welcome Jews into the country. Hopefully, someday all of the states in the United States will have a law on labeling foods kosher, and hopefully there will be more kosher restaurants in the United States.

The Need for Commitment 0

Jan21

In today’s work world, you cannot afford to tolerate a commitment level that remains at room temperature. You need people who invest themselves fully in their work, people who deliver dramatic results.

Performance is what pays the bills. Not loyalty. Not morale. What is needed is high job commitment. Commitment works a lot harder than loyalty, and gets more done than morale does. Commitment energizes. It empowers. It inspires creativity and pulls a persons true potential into play. That is crucial because the organization cannot get by anymore with mediocre performers. Commitment is self-nourishing it draws power from the spirit, it feeds the soul. Commitment gives meaning to work, and deepens ones sense of self-worth.

Be Passionate In Your Commitment

People always look at the leader when they want to take the pulse of an organization. Example says a lot. Commitment climbs when people see passion in the person in charge. They catch the feeling since commitment, after all, is a highly contagious thing. The more consuming your commitment, the more you draw your people toward you and toward the task to be done. Your intensity, your focus, drive, and dedication carries maximum influence over the level of commitment you can expect from others.

Like it or not, you set the climate. People always take a reading on the person in charge. So when it comes to building commitment, you must lead by example.

Provide a Strong Sense of Purpose

People do not care about working for a company; they want to work for a movement. Provide employees with a grand purpose, a mission with a larger meaning, a cause that transcends the dullness of their everyday duties. Give them a dream they can identify with and watch commitment climb. Build your cause around a concept, an idea or principle that can inspire people to go beyond their present limits.

It is worth noting that Martin Luther King did not say I have a strategic plan. He shouted I have a dream! And he created a crusade. Never under estimate the power of purpose.

Engineer and Honor Achievements

Commitment grows when employees have a chance to contribute. Create a work environment where people can achieve, and you create a climate of greater commitment. Employees want to know they make a difference. This gives meaning to their work, however mundane their accomplishments might seem to you.

Build commitment in your work group by giving people meaningful assignments they can carry to successful completion.

Delegate Power to Every Person

Give each employee full control and authority over some sector of work. Share the power. Delegate authority and let everyone be in charge of something. Position your people, as individuals, to wield a measure of influence over ideas and events. When people feel unable to shape circumstances and when they feel that everything is beyond their control, they learn to act helpless. Anytime people feel disempowered, commitment gets diluted.

Help your employees believe in their ability to affect their circumstances. Give them opportunities to shape their future. Look for chances to let them have a say in matters of personal concern, especially within their own sphere of influence. When the power drains out of your people, there is no strength left in the organization. Commitment dies for lack of energy.

Make Your People Feel Needed

Think how hard it would be to remain committed if your commitment was not needed. What if you did not feel like you mattered? If your efforts seemed insignificant, or if your work was not looked at as being worth much, why would you want to try?

Commitment cannot take root unless your employees feel like they count for something. If they come to believe it is no big deal whether they do a sloppy job or first class work, they get the idea that nobody really cares, the drive to deliver excellent results dies a slow death.

It is important to make every person fell like he or she really matters. See that each one gets to go home at night feeling useful … relevant …significant. Need your people as individuals. Let it show. Ask for their help. Lean on them.

Internet Marketing: A Guide to List Building 0

Jan21

There are many methods used to market internet businesses. Among them, one of the best methods is called list building. List building is as simple as its title suggests. It is the concept of building a list of possible visitors to your site. When building your list, you must take into consideration the nature of your site and those who might be related to or take an interest in the subject of your website. For instance, if you have a website on potty training, the foundation of your list should consist of people interested in this subject. For instance, a good example would be mothers with toddlers.

While keeping in mind your primary list of possible potential customers, when building your list, it would be to your advantage to try to broaden the possible visitors. You may do this by thinking of ways to promote your site to people who may not directly be interested in potty training. One way of doing this is to offer possible links to websites with similar subjects. You can exchange links with other sites that may cover similar subject matters. This practice is called link swapping. Obviously, when doing this, you want to steer clear of competing sites, after all, you do not want to give your competition an edge. For instance, keeping with the same example of a potty training website, you may offer links to websites that cover other aspects of motherhood such as taking care of an infant, or bathing your baby. The same process works in reverse, the other websites can include a link to your site and help steer traffic in your direction. By exchanging links with websites such as this you are helping each other bring in a higher volume of traffic.

Internet etiquette is important to practice while list building. People must choose to become part of your list, not the other way around. Your list should always remain confidential. Good internet business practice should always be exercised. Any unsolicited emails can be considered spam and at the very least is considered rude and in most places is illegal. Therefore, always be certain that every member contained in your list opted to be there or you could find yourself in the midst of a legal matter down the line.

Another method of internet marketing is to write articles on the subject of your site and offer them free of charge to websites and forums. Chances are you are an expert on the subject of your site and therefore writing an article should not be too difficult. You should also include a link to your website in the article which can be used as free advertising. You can send your articles to article directories also.

Another little trick is to include your URL with your e mail signature line. By following these simple techniques, your internet business will soon be extemely profitable.
