Today “Allied Health” is one of the busiest terms that are widely used in the United States health care industry. The term is generally used to classify a cluster of health care professions and covers approximately 200 occupational titles, exclusive of physicians, nurses, and a handful of others. While some allied health professionals practice independently there are others who work as the part of a health care team, offering continual assessment of patient needs. Adding to this, if we look at the present situation, over 5 million health care providers in the United States work in more than 80 allied health professions. Individuals trained for these professions are in high demand and in next few years expected to grow more and more. In fact, as per the leading health care industry experts allied health professions will be in the top 30 fastest growing jobs in the United States.
The allied health professions generally fall into two broad categories, mainly - technicians (assistants) and therapists/technologists. Technicians are generally trained to perform procedures and are required to work under the direction of technologists or therapists. This part of the allied health field basically includes medical laboratory technicians, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants and respiratory therapy technicians. However, over the past few years, emergency medical technician (EMT)/ Paramedic has pulled the attention of many youths looking forward to making career in the allied care profession. Actually, in recent times, this field has shifted away from volunteer services towards a decent paid profession and enabled many technicians earn a good salary. According to the American Medical Association, usually EMT salaries are about $25,310 annually, but the upper range for this profession enjoys $43,000 annually.

Job Description

In terms of job responsibilities, emergency medical technicians and paramedics are mostly accountable in providing emergency care to patients that have been involved in incidents like strokes, boating and car accidents or serious injuries. They provide more specialized care with extra training and usually work in teams. They also play an important role in providing transportation to patients from one medical facility to another, especially if they work for private ambulance services. However, their specific responsibilities also vary depending upon the level of training. The first level of training is EMT-Basic or EMT-1 and the most advanced level is EMT-Paramedic or EMT-4.

EMT Training

EMTs are required to perform the considerable amount of kneeling, bending, and lifting. No doubt, their work is not only physically strenuous but stressful too. Adding to this, because emergency services function 24 hours a day, emergency medical technicians generally have irregular working hours. This clearly indicates that emergency medical technicians need good formal training and certification. Addressing to meet this requirement, today there are many universities offering accredited EMT courses and training programs. The training helps them learn plenty of hands-on experience in how to carry out physical exams, evaluate trauma, administer oxygen, execute airway maintenance and manage medication. The most advanced level of training for this occupation is EMT-Paramedic. At this level, the student receives training in anatomy and physiology as well as advanced medical skills. This type of training is mostly conducted in community colleges and technical schools over 1 to 2 years and may result in an associate’s degree.

EMT certification

Apart from all this, EMT certification is yet another and one of the most important aspects of this profession. Every emergency medical technician in the United States must be certified or registered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Though, there are some states that administer their own certification examination and provide the option of taking the NRMET examination.

Certainly, working as an Emergency Medical Technician is an excellent career opportunity if any individual is looking to move into a different career. The rewards are abundant and in long-term career an individual may find and enjoy great satisfaction in helping other people who need your emergency support.

Department of Labor Target Employers Who Violate Wage and Hour Laws

Law,Career,Business News

The U.S. Department of Labor is targeting employers who violate wage and hour laws in spite of a recent ruling in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Recently, the federal Department of Labor has filed several class action suits against employers who require or permit employees to work “off the clock”. Permitting employees to work while on unpaid meal breaks or permitting employees to do something unpaid after hours and on weekends is all included in violations.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) permits the government to file collective actions on behalf of a group of employees in a similar situation. Generally, employers are liable for two years of back bay and three years in the case of willful violations. The 9th Circuit Court of appeals rules that an employee can join a collective action only if he or she files written consent with the court at the time the action is brought.

Under the FLSA and various state minimum wage laws, all the time employee works must get paid, including time the employee “voluntarily” works, in excess of his or her scheduled shifts. The FLSA also requires employees to be paid overtime, usually after working 40 hours in the payroll week. If the employee volunteers to work overtime, he or she must be compensated at a rate of 1.5 times the employee’s average wage.

Teaching English in Taiwan can be a great way to save money. Just how much you save really depends on the life style you want to live. I’ve seen people not save anything and others manage to save up enough to pay off their university debts and much more. You can save money teaching in Taiwan if you really want to and you don’t have to live like a hermit.
The average pay for an English teacher in Taiwan varies from about $18 - $20 USD per hour. This can be higher or lower depending on your qualifications and where you end up working. For many people this is already more than they may earn in their current job but for some it is the same. You can really save money in Taiwan because rent is much lower than most other developed countries. Apartments from two to 4 bedroom range from $250 to $350 USD per month. Obviously if you share with someone else you could pay anywhere from $100 - $150 USD per month.

Most teachers work approx 20 hours a week. It doesn’t sound like much but if you don’t mind eating local food you can save even more. Western or foreign food usually costs about the same or even more than it does back home. Feel like going to pizza hut? Two large pizzas can cost you $18 - $20 USD. If you want to save on your food, eat local foods and avoid anything that is imported or is marketed as being “foreign”. You can get relatively good lunches for around $2 - $3 USD which has plenty of rice, meat and vegetables.

Teaching English in Taiwan is an easy to save money in Taiwan if you are happy to live a normal life and avoid spending up big going out partying every night. Rent is cheap and it is much cheaper to eat out (if you don’t mind Chinese/local food) than it costs back home.

How to Pick Your Resume Builder 0

How to Pick Your Resume Builder

Business,Business Opportunities,Career

One new category of software application that has been gaining visibility recently is the online resume builder. If you search for “resume builder” you will discover a plethora of free and pay-for tools as well as expert resume writers soliciting their services.
So how do you pick which Resume Creator is best for you? To help you out, I’ve taken the liberty to try four of the most popular resume builders. Basically, I created a resume on each of the following sites and evaluated the program’s performance:

Visual CV

VisualCV differentiates itself by allowing users to add videos, images, and links to your standard resume. The software also utilizes a very simple job search functionality as well as privacy settings over who has access to your profile. This is a great program for users that are looking to showcase portfolios within their resume. Think artists, web designers, film makers and more.

ResuWe

ResuWe is a free site that lets a user optimize their resume by uploading a current version of the document. It points out the key components of a resume and automatically breaks up the information with very little data entry required. Although ResuWe is easy to use, some of the site seems a bit slapped together. ResuWe also allows a user to search jobs through Indeed.com. The service provides some basic SNS and promotional tools as well.

Job Spice

For the time being, Job Spice is free. This program runs much like an application created during a school project, rather than software that could be valued by a business or paying consumer. The service concentrates on making your resume visually appealing through the use of a number of preset templates. One problem I had when demoing JobSpice was successfully exporting my resumes to .pdf format.

Pongo

Pongo has several options for subscription: a free trial account, a monthly fee or an annual fee. For the fee you can download a resume you’ve created and also utilize tools like advanced job matching and task management. The free option is fairly elementary, taking you through a step by step list to build your on site resume. Overall, Pongo’s UI is not very efficient at all.

Overall, I give my best grade to ResuWe because it understands its target customers. ResuWe was created by experts that realize that in a resume, simplicity is the biggest factor. Their service doesn’t let you use thousands of fonts, insert videos, or export in anything but MS Word format, but it gets the job done. In fact, MS Word docs are the standard for recruiting software programs that hiring departments utilize to upload and parse.
